Kawasaki Z900 tuning: what's worth it (and what isn't) in 2026

Search for "Kawasaki Z900 tuning" and you get two worlds: bikes covered in parts of doubtful origin and exhausts that wake up the neighbourhood. We see tuning differently. The Z900 already leaves the factory with 125 hp and an aggressive look; what really changes it are three things: protection, styling you notice and ergonomics. No unapproved power parts and nothing that gets you in trouble at the roadworthiness inspection.

This guide is what we'd tell a mate who has just bought a Z900 and asks where to start. With the real prices from our shop and no filler.

1. Protection: first, even if it's not the flashiest

It sounds boring, but it's the part of tuning that saves you the most money. A zero-speed drop at the lights, a bad lean in the garage or a treacherous kerb can leave you with a cracked engine cover and a serious bill. So before spending on looks, cover these three areas:

  • Engine protection pack (€69.99): clutch, alternator and water pump covers protected. Fits 2017-2026 and mounts in 15 minutes. We've had it on our own Z900 since the first month.
  • Radiator guard (€34.99): the Z900's radiator is very exposed and a stone on the motorway can puncture it. Aluminium mesh, 15 minutes to fit, all generations.
  • Axle crash sliders (from €39.99): the front and rear axle "bobbins". In a side drop they're the first thing to touch the ground and they keep the fork and swingarm safe.

If you want to cover everything in one go, the Total Protection Kit (2017-26) bundles all three for €139.99 with shipping included.

2. Styling you notice (without touching anything mechanical)

This is where tuning a Z900 starts to be fun. With four parts the bike looks like a different one in photos and, more importantly, when you see it in the garage every morning.

  • Front winglet (€39.99, 2020-24; there's a 2025-26 version for €34.99): the part that changes the front end the most. Fitted in 10 minutes. It's cosmetic; we're not going to sell you downforce on a naked.
  • Headlight eye decals (€15.99): the Z900's "eyes" in red, orange, green or blue. Five minutes, and if you get bored one day they peel off without a trace.
  • Smoked tail light film (€29.99): darkens the tail without touching the light. Looks great with the mini LED indicators.
  • Short tail tidy (€34.99, 2017-24; 2025-26 version for €49.99): the mod that cleans up the rear the most. Keep the original for the inspection.

3. CNC details: cheap, quick and noticed up close

Machined aluminium parts don't change the silhouette, but they're what make someone stop and look at your bike at the petrol station. And almost all of them fit in five minutes with an Allen key:

The CNC Handlebar Kit (€49.99) brings together mirrors, plugs and oil cap with free shipping.

4. What we DON'T recommend buying cheap

Here's the honest part. There are two categories where saving money ends up costing you:

  • Unapproved exhausts. An €80 silencer with no marking sounds wonderful... until the police pull you over or inspection day arrives. If you want to change the exhaust, do it with one approved for your model and accept what it costs. We don't sell exhausts and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
  • Unapproved lights. Replacement LED headlights, sequential indicators with no marking, coloured position lights. They can be a major fault at the inspection. Our mini indicators are a cosmetic part: we say so clearly on the product page and recommend keeping the originals.

The rule we follow: if a part touches something type-approved (exhaust, lights, brakes), it's either approved or it stays in the garage. Everything we sell is cosmetic or protective; if the inspection ever asks, it comes off in minutes.

5. By generation: not everything fits every bike

The Z900 has had three different front ends and two electronics packages. Engine protection, radiator guard, axle sliders and CNC parts fit 2017-2026; the rest depends on the year:

  • Z900 2017-2019: halogen headlight, no TFT display. Full protection, tail tidy, exhaust bracket and CNC.
  • Z900 2020-2024: LED headlight and TFT. The generation with the most parts: winglet, decals, TFT protector, brake caliper guard. It's the one we ride.
  • Z900 2025-2026: new front end. Specific winglet, headlight vinyl, tail tidy and TFT protector; none of it is interchangeable with the 2020-24.

If you're not sure which one you have, first check which Z900 generation you have.

6. Rough budgets (with our real prices)

To give you an idea of what each amount gets you, based on what our kits cost today:

  • Under €60: the First Protection Kit (2020-24), €54.99: radiator guard, silicone exhaust protector and TFT screen protector. The essentials so nothing gets scratched or punctured in the first year.
  • Around €60: the Front Kit (2020-24), €59.99: winglet, headlight eye decals and TFT protector. The biggest visual change for that money.
  • Around €50: the CNC Handlebar Kit, €49.99: bar-end mirrors, plugs and oil cap.
  • Around €140: the Total Protection Kit (2017-26), €139.99: engine, radiator and front and rear axles. The bike armoured in one go.

With around €200 (Total Protection plus Front Kit) you have a protected Z900 with a new face.

Quick questions

Do I lose the Kawasaki warranty by fitting accessories?

Not for fitting bolt-on or adhesive cosmetic or protective parts. The warranty covers factory defects; they could only dispute a failure if the accessory were the direct cause (for example, badly done wiring). None of the parts in this guide touch the engine, electronics or brakes.

Does it pass the roadworthiness inspection with this fitted?

Protection, radiator guard, sliders, caps and TFT protector don't touch anything type-approved. Winglet and decals are cosmetic: they may ask you to remove them and they come off in minutes. CNC mirrors and tail tidy: keep the originals and refit them for the inspection. We don't promise approval for any part; each product page tells you which case it falls into.

How long does delivery take?

We prepare the order in 24-48 h and delivery takes 7 to 12 days, with a tracking number. Free shipping from €55 (every kit in this guide qualifies) and 30 days to return it if it's not for you.
